Project management and solution design role for both cross-departmental and project-based teams. Developed technical solutions for BDO’s virtual computing environment that addressed identified business needs. Provided high-level analysis, input, and technical designs for computing solution automation and management technologies as well as guidance and mentoring for other Engineers.

  • Managed and implemented the project to evaluate and deploy a functional VDI environment for BDO’s virtual desktop initiative, with plans to expand the offering to 3500+ users.
  • Designed the architecture, deployed, and maintained all Citrix Provisioning Services and Citrix XenDesktop virtualization environments in the company.
  • Coordinated efforts between the infrastructure team, the desktop team, and business line representatives to install, configure, test, and publish applications through Citrix XenApp.

Led the Windows Infrastructure team in coordinating and implementing new Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, and BMC BladeLogic technology projects. Responsible for 400+ Windows servers in an enterprise-class data center facility. Created implementation and maintenance documentation and DR plans, executed formal change control methodology, resolved trouble tickets, managed OS security patching.

  • Led weekly planning sessions for all Windows infrastructure initiatives across a base of 400+ servers. Managed progress on existing projects, created summary documentation for new projects, and collaborated on short-term and long-term team goals.
  • Developed and implemented a security patching procedure for 400+ Microsoft Windows servers. Brought all servers up to current patch levels and created a detailed plan for deploying monthly security hotfixes to all dev, test, and production server environments. Maintained SAS 70 compliance through this work.
  • Led the project to build 3 new Citrix XenApp application server farms for deploying virtualized published applications to all dev, test, and production server environments. Defined and managed the project to replace all aging Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 and 4.5 farms and migrate all enterprise applications to the new XenApp farms.
  • Coordinated the replacement of an older VMware ESX 3.5 server farm with three new VMware ESXi 4.0 server clusters. Configured production servers for disaster recovery using VMware SRM to fail over to an off-site data center.

Managed and supported hosted and co-location customers in a high-end, highly-available Data Center facility. Configured and maintained Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange Servers, SQL Servers, and Citrix application server farms for multiple customers. Installed and maintained Microsoft and Linux-based web servers hosting multiple web sites. Created detailed design and configuration documentation for multiple customer environments. Evaluated and recommended new products and technologies for deployment into production. Responsible for all Linux configuration and support issues, including in-house Linux DNS, web, and email servers.

  • Co-managed the day-to-day operations of a multi-million-dollar data center facility. Planned for future expansion, monitored systems, worked with customers to prevent security breaches, allocated resources for new hosted environments.
  • Designed and implemented a 100% hosted solution for a large Grand Rapids law firm. Configured 16 servers to handle all IT functions for the firm, including multiple Active Directory servers, file and print servers, front and back-end Exchange servers, SQL servers, application servers, and a multiple-server Citrix farm for remote access to hosted applications.
  • Installed and configured all Linux infrastructure servers for Corporate Technologies’ Grand Rapids location (DNS, email, web servers).

Designed and implemented network and server solutions for customers, working on-site to coordinate with IT staff. Specialized in Microsoft Active Directory networks, including DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Terminal Services, Exchange Server, backup, and client workstation configurations.

  • Configured dozens of new networks and performed dozens more network upgrades for customers, migrating to newer server and client hardware and operating systems.
  • Installed many different Exchange Server environments for customers, from single-server deployments to multiple-site setups.
